Angelos Tsakanikas is Professor of Economic Evaluation of Innovation Technology Systems and Entrepreneurship at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Director of the Industrial and Energy Economics Laboratory (LIEE) and Scientific Officer of the Entrepreneurship Observatory of IOBE. He has participated in major European research projects in the broader area of innovation studies, socio-economic research and information society. Since May 2004 he has worked at IOBE in various positions and was Research Director from April 2012 to January 2014. His research interests are related to technology and business strategy, the economics of innovation, entrepreneurship and related policies. He has been involved in numerous research projects on the Greek economy and selected sectors, entrepreneurship and competitiveness, human capital, information society and related policies. He leads the Greek research team participating in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), as well as the team participating in the IMD Competitiveness Report. He has served as Vice President of the Industrial Property Organization (OBI) and as a member of the Board of the Hellenic Academy of Industrial Property. Finally, he heads the Technology Transfer Office of NTUA.

From 2003 to 2008 he taught as Lecturer (P.∆ 407/80) at the Department of Economics of the University of Athens. From 2003 to 2003 he worked at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Peloponnese. From May 2004 to January 2014 he worked at the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE). In the context of his research and professional activity he has been involved in numerous studies on various sectors of the Greek economy, entrepreneurship and competitiveness issues, as well as new technologies. His research interests are mainly related to the economics of innovation, the technological strategy of firms, entrepreneurship and related public policies. He is a member of the research consortium of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor and collaborates with the MOCE of NTUA.

He took up his position at NTUA in January 2014. He teaches, at undergraduate level: Introduction to Economics, Macroeconomics, Business Organization and Management, Statistics for Engineers, Economic Analysis of Industrial Decisions and Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and, at the graduate level, the course Industrial Policy and International Competitiveness.
