MEGA ACT GREEN: Greek Innovation for a Sustainable Tomorrow – A collaboration between MEGA and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA)

Within the framework of the Act Green program, MEGA, in close collaboration with the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics of the School of Chemical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) is organizing a new innovation competition. Giving a platform to students and young scientists of our country, the competition aims to highlight, reward and financially support their innovative ideas, uniting the academic community with the industry, in a joint initiative of green innovation. The competition also aims to continuously support and highlight the valuable work of young scientists and students and Greek universities, in the field of green innovation, aiming to promote and promote solutions for a sustainable future.

Students of higher and higher education, young researchers, PhD candidates and PhD holders who have come up with potentially commercially exploitable research results, research teams who have creative ideas and wish to transform them into sustainable production processes or products, can submit their application. The participation platform has been opened at www.mega-green-innovation.gr .

Through the competition process, the most original ideas will be highlighted and rewarded, which are expected to contribute to (a) improving efficiency at any stage of the value chain, (b) integrating the environmental dimension into the design of products and services, (c) expanding the use of new technologies, (d) adopting good practices and standards resulting from new technologies and (e) the circular economy and modern trends in corporate operation with the Environment and Sustainable Development in mind. More specifically, the proposals should concern one of the following thematic areas: (a) Energy and Climate Crisis, (b) Waste Management and Circular Economy, (c) New Sustainable Materials and (d) Greek Innovation and Environment. The evaluation and scoring of the proposals will be carried out by an independent Scientific Committee headed by Angelos Tsakanikas, Associate Professor at NTUA in the School of Chemical Engineering, Director of the Process and Systems Analysis, Design and Development Department and Director of the NTUA/EMEA Research Center. The Scientific Committee consists of respected members of the university community, academics, as well as external experts and PhD researchers such as, among others, Mr. Dionysis Asimakopoulos, Emeritus Professor of NTUA, Coordinator of the Energy and Environmental Systems Management Unit of NTUA, Mr. Konstantinos Aravosis, Professor of NTUA, School of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Industrial Management and Operations Research, Secretary General of the Ministry of Natural Environment and Water, Coordinator of the Research Unit of Economic Environment and Sustainable Development, Ms. Ioanna Kastelli, Faculty Member of NTUA, School of Chemical Engineering, Department of Analysis, Design and Development of Processes and Systems, Coordinator of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship of NTUA etc.

The proposals will be scored based on specific criteria. The evaluation criteria consist of: (a) the extent to which the proposal integrates innovations to solve a problem, (b) the stage of development at which the proposal is, (c) the general perspective of the business idea and (d) the extent to which the proposal is consistent with reducing environmental impact. After the competition is completed, the 3 winners of the grand prizes will be announced. It is worth mentioning that in addition to the honorary cash prizes, the winners will be supported with additional publicity actions for their product or service, while they will have the opportunity to receive an extensive evaluation of their proposals by the most experts in the market.
