Speech by Yannis Caloghirou at the UNU-MERIT International Conference
Professor Yannis Caloghirou from NTUA gave a speech at the International Conference of the research/educational institute UNU-MERIT held on November 26-28, 2014 in Maastricht, the Netherlands. UNU-MERIT (Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology) is a partnership between the United Nations University and Maastricht University. This conference was organized to mark the 25th anniversary of the institute.
The conference theme was: “Future perspectives on innovation and governance in development.”

Yannis Caloghirou’s speech took place within the thematic session “Innovation in Europe and the world” and was titled “Delivering on the growth promise in the peripheral European countries: How can an ‘innovating out of the crisis’ strategy work in Greece.”

Additionally, Yannis Caloghirou had a meeting with Luc Soete, founding director of MERIT and current Rector of Maastricht University (see related photo).
Yannis Caloghirou, together with Vasilis Pesmazoglou, translated into Greek and edited the book by Chris Freeman & Luc Soete (2000) “Working for All or Mass Unemployment? The Role of Information Technology in Technological Change at the Turn of the 21st Century,” Athens: Themelio Publications. In this book, Caloghirou and Pesmazoglou (2000) wrote the introduction titled “Economic Analysis of Technical Change and Technology Policy: The Contribution of Freeman and Soete” (pp. 11-44).
