Successful completion of the project “Technoeconomic Evaluation of Waste Treatment Methods of an Olive Processing and Standardization Plant” by the Hellenic Olive Processing and Standardization Organization

  23/03/2020

The project entitled “Technoeconomic Evaluation of Waste Treatment Methods of an Olive Processing and Standardization Plant” was successfully completed by the Hellenic Research and Development Organization (EVEO). The research project concerned the technoeconomic valuation and evaluation of existing and new infrastructures to address environmental and operational problems faced by an olive processing and standardization plant. In particular, the project focused on the most appropriate, environmentally and economically, management of the by-products of the process carried out in the plant, as well as the waste generated both at the exit of the production/processing line and after the exit of the secondary treatment biological treatment.

In this light, a feasibility study was initially carried out, where a detailed analysis of the operational problem was carried out, taking into account the operational, economic and technical aspects of the project. At the same time, a cost-benefit analysis was prepared for the rational evaluation of the proposed investment, with the aim of identifying possible weaknesses at a techno-economic level and implementing the necessary technologies, in order to offset the business risk and ensure that the available resources will be invested as effectively as possible.

Finally, given that this is an environmentally friendly investment, the conditions for the success of this specific investment were highlighted, both in terms of conception and design, as well as in terms of implementation and operation, combining the reduction of its local environmental footprint with resource savings.
