The Industrial and Energy Economics Laboratory (LIEE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) organized the online event “Unlocking the Potential of Women Entrepreneurs”, which took place within the framework of the global Women Entrepreneurship Week initiative (https://www.montclair.edu/entrepreneur/), on October 24, 2024, from 17:30 to 19:30.
This initiative was launched by the Universities of New Jersey in the USA that deal with entrepreneurship and this year marks its 11th anniversary, with the participation of more than 140 universities internationally, such as Babson, the University of Michigan, Princeton, Cornell, and Georgetown. NTUA and IEWL participated for the 6th consecutive year.
This year’s event focused on female entrepreneurship in Greece, highlighting opportunities and challenges faced by female entrepreneurs, with an emphasis on strengthening and supporting innovative knowledge-intensive ventures in various sectors of the economy.
The event was coordinated by Emilia Protogerou, Assistant Professor at the School of Chemical Engineering, NTUA and member of the EVEO research team.
You can find the event invitation here and the event program here.

On 12 and 13 September 2024, the Kick-off Meeting of the European project Twinn4MicroUp, funded by Horizon Europe, was held at NTUA, with the participation of NTUA’s Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics.
The main objective of the project is to improve the research capabilities of the NTUA in the fields of Synthetic Microbial Biotechnology in order to enhance the research profile of the NTUA. This will be achieved through the transfer of research knowledge, excellence and best practices from three high-performance research institutions: the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands & Midwest (TUS), Ireland; the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), University of Belgrade (Serbia); and the Microbial Biotechnology Laboratory of the Department of Biosciences, Biotechnology and Environment, University of Bari (Italy). More specifically, TwInn4MicroUp will develop 4 new cutting-edge innovations in the field of “clean technologies” that can lead to sustainable jobs, developing key skills for the transition towards a greener future. Highlighting previous research achievements in the utilisation of plastic waste by-products and pilot scaling up these processes within the project will highlight the untapped potential of low-value by-products and underline the importance of relevant research. TwInn4MicroUp aims to educate and train researchers in Synthetic Microbial Biotechnology, while promoting innovation through the formation of a network of experts, and encouraging relevant policy discussions. The project will work with companies from the wider ecosystem, facilitating their investments to create a roadmap to a greener, more innovative and sustainable future in the field of synthetic biotechnology.
The LIEE-NTUA will support the creation of an Innovation Hub in the field of synthetic microbial biotechnology and support the process of potential market exploitation of research ideas and results to connect the rich production of innovative products at the NTUA with existing or new companies in the field.
