Conference for the presentation of the NETonKIE research project’s results, 14 December 2023

The Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics (LIEE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) organized a conference in the context of the completion of the research project “Greek Participation in European Research Networks and its Impact on Innovation and Knowledge-Intensive Entrepreneurship” (NETonKIE), which was funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI).

The conference was conducted on December 14, 2023, in the Multimedia Amphitheater of the NTUA Library.

The Conference included the presentation of the project’s research results as well as a series of organized discussions (panels) with various types of actors (research groups of universities & research centers and business firms) participating in the European research Framework Programmes as well as policy actors.

More specifically, the topics of the organized discussions were the following:

  1. The expectations and benefits of start-ups from their participation in the Framework Programmes
  2. The Framework Programmes as a lever for enhancing innovation and technological upgrading of firms
  3. The importance of Framework Programmes for the research activity of Universities and Research Centers
  4. Public policies and business strategies for the better utilization of European Programmes

Online Event “Nurturing female-led innovation and entrepreneurship”, organized by LIEE-NTUA and Assistant Prof. Aimilia Protogerou for the 5th consecutive year

The Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics of the School of Chemical Engineering at NTUA (LIEE-NTUA) is glad to be a part of the 10th Anniversary celebration of Women Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative held with the participation of more than 140 universities worldwide.

On this occasion, LIEE-NTUA hosted the online event “Nurturing female-led innovation and entrepreneurship” on October 19, 2023, from 17:30 to 19:30 EEST.

This year’s event focused on the role of Technology Transfer Offices in empowering women in science and research, and highlighted innovative knowledge-intensive ventures from different sectors of economic activity.

Organization of an online event within the framework of Women Entrepreneurship Week 2023 for the 5th consecutive year by the LIEE-NTUA and Asst. Professor Emilia Protogerou

The Industrial and Energy Economics Laboratory (LIEE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) organized the online event “Nurturing female-led innovation and entrepreneurship”, which took place within the framework of the Women Entrepreneurship Week initiative (https://www.montclair.edu/entrepreneur/), on October 19, 2023 from 17:30 to 19:30.

This global initiative was launched by the Universities of New Jersey in the USA, which deal with Entrepreneurship, and this year it is being held for the 10th year with the participation of more than 140 universities around the world (among them are Babson, University of Michigan, UNC, Princeton, Cornell, University of Iowa, SetonHall, Georgetown, etc.)

From Greece, for the fifth consecutive year, the NTUA and the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics of the School of Chemical Engineering participated. The aim of this year’s event was to highlight important aspects of female entrepreneurship in our country, focusing on the role of Technology Transfer Offices in strengthening this entrepreneurship but also in highlighting innovative knowledge-intensive female ventures from different sectors of economic activity.

The workshop was coordinated by Emilia Protogerou, Assistant Professor of the Industrial and Energy Economics Laboratory of the School of Chemical Engineering, NTUA.

Start of a new research project

On 2/10/2023, the new research project Leveraging Global Value Chains for Innovation and Competitiveness: The case of Greece (acronym GRinGVCs) was launched at the Hellenic Research Institute of Greece, with a duration of two years and a budget of €157,992.00. The project is under the scientific supervision of Assoc. Prof. A. Protogerou and will be funded by ELIDEK.

Update on the activities of the Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies – HIAS

NTUA participates in and supports the actions of the Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies – HIAS which, during the period 3-7 July, are as follows:

  • 3-5/7 “Course” on Universal Artificial Intelligence. It is mainly addressed to undergraduate students of Greek universities and the universality consists in covering a wide range of scientific disciplines. The coordinator of the course is MIT Professor Dimitris Bertsimas. The co-instructor from NTUA is Professor Giorgos Stamou of the School of Advanced Studies. It will be held at Demokritos in person.   • 6/7 Workshop “AI Frontiers and Interfaces”, at the Eugenides Foundation. It is mainly addressed to young researchers. Information: https://aiworkshop2023.hellenic-ias.org/
  • 7/7 HIAS Symposium, at the Eugenides Foundation. To discuss cutting-edge scientific issues in combination with the meeting of Greek scientists from abroad with their colleagues in Greece, to explore possibilities and launch collaborations. The discussion topics/panels are: 1) Bridges in Education and Research, 2) Decarbonization, 3) Artificial Intelligence 4) Bridges in Innovation. An Open Session will also be held on Monday 26/6, 16:30-18:30 in the Events Hall of the Administration Building with physical presence and live broadcast. The Open Session takes place within the framework of the Summit of the universities of theEuropean Alliance EULiST, in which NTUA participates and hosts it on 26-27/6.
