Organization of the 15th International Globelics Conference by LIEE/NTUA
The 15th International Globelics Conference was held with great success, organized by the Industrial and Energy Economics Laboratory (LIEE) of NTUA with the support of the Research University Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) of NTUA. The Conference took place from 11 to 13 October 2017 at the premises of the Conference Center of the National Center for Natural Sciences Research (NKESR) “Demokritos” and was entitled: “Innovation And Capacity Building In The Context Of Financialisation And Uneven Development Of The Global Economy: New Roles For The State, Productive Sector, And Social Actors”.
This is an event of international relevance, as the identity of this specific body has a global composition and is addressed to the world of science and entrepreneurship, having as its central idea the development of innovation. In particular, Globelics (Global Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation, and Competence Building Systems) is a global research network, in which over 2000 academics and researchers from the five continents, developed and developing countries, participate, seeking the role that innovation, knowledge and the building of skills and capabilities can play in economic and sustainable development.
The Conference was attended by 350-400 people, Academics/Researchers from Greece and abroad, executives of large companies and Start-ups, representatives of sponsors and supporters, etc. In a geographical distribution, the invited speakers and rapporteurs from abroad came approximately: 70 from Europe, 65 from Latin America, 12 from the USA/Canada, 55 from Asia and 33 from Africa. Also, it is noteworthy that 133 active volunteers from 9 different Educational Institutions of the country contributed to the holding of the Conference.
The activities of the Conference included:
- a) 8 Keynote Speeches by Bengt-Åke Lundvall, Richard Nelson, William Lazonick, Maria Joao Rodrigues, Nikos Christodoulakis, Kostas Fotakis, Elisabeth Lipiatou and the Mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis
- b) Presentation of 188 scientific papers by distinguished and young researchers.
- c) Conducting 8 special thematic discussions with the participation of distinguished speakers from the international and Greek world
- d) Presentation of 14 books
- e) Industry Event: Round Table with representatives from 7 major Greek companies. The discussion was entitled: “The Greek productive system in the post crisis era: A pattern for an effective transformation through innovation and sustainable development”.
- e) Start–up Event: An open event on innovative entrepreneurship in Greece, which included 2 speaker panels.
- f) 4 Cultural Events: Tours of 1) the National Archaeological Museum, 2) the Acropolis Museum, 3) the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, and 4) the historic center of Athens
