The Industrial and Energy Economics Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) organized a workshop on 19-20 September 2019 at the Multimedia Amphitheatre of the NTUA Library, in the context of its participation in the research project “GLOBALINTO: Capturing the value of intangible assets in micro data to promote the EU’s Growth and Competitiveness” funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Programme.
In addition to NTUA, the other seven participating institutions of the project (University of Vaasa – Project Coordinator, University of Hamburg, The University of Manchester, Aarhus University, Paris-Sud University, University of Ljubljana, Statistics Norway) also participated in the meeting. The content of the project concerns the investigation of the issue of intangible resources of enterprises, the development of new methods of their measurement, the study of their relationship with productivity both at the level of enterprises and of the economy as a whole, as well as the investigation of the role of politicians in this issue.
From the National Institute of Economic and Technological Development/National Technical University of Athens, the meeting was attended by Professor Yiannis Kalogirou (scientific director), Associate Professor Angelos Tsakanikas, researchers Emilia Protogerou, Panagiotis Panagiotopoulos, Evangelos Siokas and Ioanna Kastelli, doctoral candidates Giorgos Siokas and Petros Dimas, and research associate Dimitrios Stamopoulos. Additionally, the meeting was attended by Professor Nicholas Vonortas of George Washington University and Michael Vassiliadis, a researcher at the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research, who are partners of the National Institute of Economics and Business Administration (NIEBA) in this project. Of the other seven participating institutions of the project, Hannu Piekkola (Project Coordinator), Jamshed Iqbal and Saara Hämäläinen (University of Vaasa), Felix Roth and Simone Caliò (University of Hamburg), Joseph Lampel and Sarada Gadepalli (The University of Manchester), Carter Bloch, Carita Eklund and Kristof Van Criekingen (Aarhus University), Ahmed Bounfour and Keung Oui Kim (Paris-Sud University), Tjasa Redek and Daša Farčnik (University of Ljubljana), Marina Rybalka (Statistics Norway), as well as Marianne Paasi from the Technical University of Berlin, a member of the Advisory Board of the project.
The purpose of the meeting was to present and discuss the progress of each Work Package (WP) and the project as a whole, and to exchange views and make decisions on the next stages of its implementation. In more detail, the first day of the meeting began with introductory speeches, followed by presentations and relevant discussion on WP 5 “Micro-economic underpinnings of growth”, WP 4 “Large scale pilot survey of intangible investments” which concerns the implementation of a large-scale field survey in 2000 enterprises in the 8 countries from which the participating project bodies come, WP 1 “Foresight on growth, methodologies and data for measuring intangible assets”, WP 6 “Macro-economic underpinnings of growth using EU wide industry-level data”, and WP 3 “Processing data and indicators”, and a free discussion was also held on various issues of the project. On the evening of the first day, a dinner was held at the Roof Garden of the Central Athens Hotel, located in the center of Athens.
The second day of the work included presentations and discussions on WP 2 “Setting the conceptual framework for processing new data and value chains” which concerns the conceptual framework of the project, WP 7 “Intangible assets in the public sector and policy” which concerns the formulation of policies, as well as WP 9 “Project Management and Administration” and WP 8 “Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation”, which are related to the general management-administration of the project, and the communication and dissemination of the activity and its results to the research community and the general public.

The 14th Seminar on the Information Society & the Knowledge Economy was successfully completed by the INFOSTRAG team of the Industrial and Energy Economics Laboratory of the National Technical University of Greece, organized within the framework of the annual seminars organized by the Institute of Historical Research of the National Research Foundation (IHR/NHRF) in Ermoupolis, Syros.
The Seminar took place from the evening of Thursday, July 18, to the morning of Sunday, July 21, at the Conference Hall of the Cyclades Chamber.

The second “CEO Night” organized by the Invent ICT program was successfully completed on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, with the CEO of Huawei Technologies S.A. Mr. Jacky Chen as a guest and with the participation of more than twenty teams and program participants.
“CEO Nights” are an initiative of the deep tech incubator Invent ICT and are held with the aim of connecting teams with important representatives of large technology companies and exchanging views on the needs of the market, as well as the startup ecosystem.
The Invent ICT program is implemented by the EPI.noo incubator of the Research University Institute of Communication and Computer Systems of the National Technical University of Athens (ICCS NTUA) and the Industry Disruptors Game Changers (ID-GC), with the support of the Association of Mobile Telephony Companies, under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information.

The Industrial and Energy Economics Laboratory and the EPINOO Incubator of EPISEY NTUA organized with great success the educational seminar on “The basic steps for the commercial exploitation of an idea” for the participants of the ECOTROPHELIA Competition of SEVT.
Assoc. Prof. A. Tsakanikas and Dr. Vangelis Siokas, coordinator of the incubator, gave useful advice (administrative, organizational) to the participants of the competition on how to manage innovation and presented tools for the commercial exploitation and promotion in the market of the ideas submitted to the competition.
The participants actively participated in the seminar while the relevant discussion on the specific products presented in the competition may prove useful in their potential path in the market. At the same time, the winning team of the national ECOTROPHELIA Competition will be further supported in its preparation for the European final to be held in October in Cologne.
The Industrial and Energy Economics Laboratory (LIEE) of NTUA organized an event in which Christos Stylianides, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, presented the rescEU initiative. This initiative, which has been characterized as one of the 20 EU achievements for the period 2014-2019, aims to strengthen the existing EU civil protection mechanism by upgrading the capacities for the prevention and timely response to natural and technological disasters, such as forest fires, major floods, and chemical, biological and nuclear accidents-incidents.
The event, which is part of the series of meetings and events of the NTUA’s EVEO on the theme: “Technology, Innovation and Development”, was held on Thursday, May 9, 2019, from 3-6 pm at the NTUA Multimedia Amphitheater, on the Zografou Polytechnic Campus.
