Assistant Professor Angelos Tsakanikas participated in the event “The Spirit of Entrepreneurship – Starting up in Health and Med’ Tech”, organized by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Greece Office. This meeting marked the first in a series of future events.

During these sessions, young innovative entrepreneurs from Greece and Germany are invited to present and discuss their personal experiences in taking their first steps toward creating a business. At the same time, participants who are interested in taking their first step as entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and gather valuable mentoring advice.

NTUA Assistant Professor Angelos Tsakanikas delivered a talk as part of the 2nd Annual Conference of the Crisis Observatory – ELIAMEP, titled The Social Impact of the Crisis in Europe and Greece: Policy and Policies for Solidarity and Development” (December 16, 2014, at the French Institute of Greece).

His presentation, titled “Building an Outward-Looking Economy from the Bottom Up: Promoting Entrepreneurship in Greece,” focused on entrepreneurship in the Greek context.

Professor NTUA Yannis Caloghirou participated in the conference “Electrical and Computer Engineering 360 – A Glimpse into the Future,” organized by the IEEE student branch at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) on Monday, December 15, at the NTUA campus in Zografou.

In his speech, he emphasized that a young researcher should not leave their research on the shelf or their ideas unexploited. Additionally, he presented the relationship between Innovation and Entrepreneurship at NTUA.

The conference included technical talks, workshops, and activities focused on the interests of Electrical and Computer Engineering students.

The goal of the conference was to inform, motivate, and network young engineering students.

Speech by Yannis Caloghirou at the UNU-MERIT International Conference

Professor Yannis Caloghirou from NTUA gave a speech at the International Conference of the research/educational institute UNU-MERIT held on November 26-28, 2014 in Maastricht, the Netherlands. UNU-MERIT (Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology) is a partnership between the United Nations University and Maastricht University. This conference was organized to mark the 25th anniversary of the institute.

The conference theme was: “Future perspectives on innovation and governance in development.”

Yannis Caloghirou’s speech took place within the thematic session “Innovation in Europe and the world” and was titled “Delivering on the growth promise in the peripheral European countries: How can an ‘innovating out of the crisis’ strategy work in Greece.”

Additionally, Yannis Caloghirou had a meeting with Luc Soete, founding director of MERIT and current Rector of Maastricht University (see related photo).

Yannis Caloghirou, together with Vasilis Pesmazoglou, translated into Greek and edited the book by Chris Freeman & Luc Soete (2000) “Working for All or Mass Unemployment? The Role of Information Technology in Technological Change at the Turn of the 21st Century,” Athens: Themelio Publications. In this book, Caloghirou and Pesmazoglou (2000) wrote the introduction titled “Economic Analysis of Technical Change and Technology Policy: The Contribution of Freeman and Soete” (pp. 11-44).

Professor Yannis Caloghirou of NTUA participated in the EFEPAE workshop “STATE AID AND DEVELOPMENT” held at the DIVANI CARAVEL Hotel in Athens. In his speech, he highlighted key points related to entrepreneurship, such as prevailing perceptions about entrepreneurship, the lack of new B2B businesses, and the limited interaction between different activities. Additionally, he emphasized some directions that could favor entrepreneurship and the development of the country. More information is available in the conference proceedings.
