The “NOYNOY Idea Challenge” Competition aims to contribute to strengthening the cooperation between academia and industry and the exploitation of research results and ideas. On Sunday, March 18, 2018, the presentation of the Business Game of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) was successfully completed as part of the side activities of the Job Fair Athens 2018.
The Business Game of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) was an initiative of Associate Professor G. Mavrotas, who in collaboration with his scientific team built the market software and the interactive environment of the game. The Business Game takes place within the framework of the course Business Organization and Management for Engineers, which is taught at the School of Chemical Engineering of NTUA by Professor G. Kalogirou and Assistant Professor A. Tsakanikas. The coordinator of the support team (coaches) of the students who participate in the game every year is Dr. E. Siokas and the support team consists of Dr. N. Kanellos and PhD Candidates G. Siokas and P. Dimas, members of the research team of the National Technical University of Athens.
The presentation took place at the premises of the Research & Entrepreneurship Interconnection Structure EPI.noo, which is coordinated by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit (IU) and the Research University Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens.
During the presentation, the students were introduced to basic concepts of Business Organization and Management, and mainly the functions of a business, as well as an introduction to the business game environment, the decisions that one can make within the game and the way in which the market software that “runs” behind the game works.
This year, for the first time in the context of the side events of Job Fair Athens 2018, registered students had the opportunity to form teams and compete against each other in the game’s virtual market environment. After the end of the presentation, the students formed 10 teams of 3-4 people and are now invited to compete against each other in business within the context of a virtual computer market and in 7 decision periods until the final winner is declared.
The full text of the presentation can be found here (pdf file).
More information about the theory behind the game and the subject of Business Administration can be found in the electronic book of the National Technical University of Greece entitled “Business Organization and Management for Engineers”, which you can find in electronic form here.
